With the certification of Avatar 2006, Netsmart became the first behavioral healthcare, public health, substance abuse and methadone software and services provider to have an ambulatory EHR product certified by CCHIT. This certification provides our customers and future customers with the confidence that they are using a CCHIT tested EHR product that meets 100% of the 2006 criteria for ambulatory EHRs.

CCHIT certification also demonstrates that the electronic health record (EHR) component of Avatar has been tested and passed inspection of 100 percent of a set of criteria for:

• Functionality (ability to create and manage electronic records for all patients, as well as automating workflows),
• Interoperability (a first step in the ability to receive and send electronic data to other entities such as laboratories), and
• Security (ability to keep patients’ information safe).

CCHIT certification helps organizations sort out the overwhelming number and variety of EHR systems available. Organizations can look to products with the CCHIT seal as an important differentiator in their decision-making process for their EHR systems. The Certification Commission includes representatives from a wide variety of stakeholder groups, including healthcare providers, payers, vendors, consumers, researchers, public health agencies and informatics experts.
