The human impact of the opioid crisis is tremendous. More than 115 people in the U.S. die every day from an opioid overdose. Additionally, the U.S. spends nearly $8 billion on criminal justice-related costs due to the selling and consumption of opioids. While these staggering statistics spark awareness and discussion, the crisis extends far beyond these numbers. Without significant commitment from providers, government officials, healthcare IT companies and individuals, it will continue to further devastate the country. We believe a combination of healthcare technology, policy change, integrated care and data sharing can contain, and eventually decimate, the opioid crisis in the U.S.
