Volunteers of America Mid-States was founded in 1896 and today
operates nearly 50 human services programs across Kentucky, Tennessee,
West Virginia and Indiana. In support of their mission to provide positive
change in the lives of individuals and communities through a ministry of
service, Volunteers of America Mid-States provides housing, substance
use disorder recovery services and support for individuals with intellectual
and developmental disabilities.
The Objective
Revenue cycle functions for VOA Mid-States were historically outsourced
to a third party. However, the vendor’s lack of knowledge in behavioral
health billing resulted in poor collection rates for the organization. The
organization was seeking an RCM ally who could manage the nuances of
behavioral health billing and increase their overall financial performance.
VOA Mid-States engaged Netsmart to deliver a custom solution to improve
financial results related to insurance billing and collections. This included
managing billing, accounts receivables (AR) and cash posting. As part
of the service, Netsmart provided leadership metrics on key performance
indicator (KPI) tracking and executive reporting. As a result of the partnership
the following was achieved:
- Uncovered the root cause of denials, unbilled and held claims; corrected issues to provide more accurate reporting and reduce loss of revenue
- Standardized deposit reporting and cash posting reconciliation to improve posting accuracy
- Helped organization transition to a next-generation EHR billing platform, Netsmart myEvolv®
- Managed engagement with Netsmart Managed Services to update and configure the EHR to maximize billing performance
We are very pleased with the RCM support we are getting from Netsmart. The team is very helpful and provides
information that allows us to manage our claims more effectively.
